With building work now complete, many residents have already started moving into a new apartment complex in Swansea city centre. The 33-apartment block, which is being managed by Pobl Group, forms part of the £135m Copr Bay district developed by Swansea Council. New images reveal future look of old BHS in Oxford Street when it becomes Swansea’s central library
These striking images show what Swansea’s new central library will look like as plans for the new city centre “community hub” take a big step forward. Back in March, 2021, Swansea Council confirmed it was looking to fill an empty unit in Oxford Street with a number of public services, including the city’s library, West Glamorgan Archive Service, a life-long learning centre, and an employability hub. Now, Swansea Council has appointed building firm Kier Construction as the main contractor – and asked it to begin to deliver the next stage of the development. Read More
Big chunk of Oxford Street in Swansea bought by developer which plans new shops and apartments
Kartay Holdings has just acquired 254 to 260 Oxford Street, with a view to revitalising the retail offering while creating 27 apartments on the upper floors. It has also acquired 1 Oxford Street – home to the McDonald’s restaurant and Taco Bell – and that it intended to provide 30 flats on the upper floors. The company sees Swansea as its “focus for investment”, and intends to carry out further acquisitions. Read More
First look inside transformed Plaza cinema in Port Talbot
These striking photographs offer a first look inside Port Talbot’s transformed Plaza building – which now houses a theatre, gym, cafe, business hub, multi-purpose rooms, and a digital recording studio – and is set to open to the public very soon. The Grade II listed art-deco building, which started life as a cinema back in 1940 and was a popular family-friendly destination for decades until its shock closure in 1999, will be re-launching as a community hub. Debenhams in Carmarthen set to be replaced by state-of-the-art gym
The new hub – which will be called ‘Carmarthen Hwb’ – will be the first of its kind in Carmarthenshire, bringing together a range of key public services including state-of-the-art leisure, culture and exhibition spaces, health and tourist information, customer services and access to further and higher education. The ground floor of the building will be home to a new health and fitness centre, comprising a council-run 50-station gym and health studios. Read More
The treasure trove tucked away in the middle of Carmarthen which has to be kept at a constant temperature
In the heart of Carmarthenshire Archives’ new building are documents cataloguing fishing rights on the River Towy dating back to the 13th Century. They are the earliest collections of a treasure trove of maps, plans, ledgers, books, sketches, photos and glass plate negatives. Laid out from end to end, the collection would stretch four miles. The £2.2m building has been built to Passivhaus standards, meaning it has an airtight fabric and is extremely energy efficient. Read More

Pasta a Mano dishes out freshly-made pasta and some of the best cannoli this side of Sicily – all from an unassuming black trailer parked up next to the yacht club at Newport in Pembrokeshire. It’s not just pasta they come for, admitted owner Derw Robertson-Jacobs, as customers have started coming for the coffee too – in part because they’ve invested in a proper espresso machine for the 2022 summer season. UK’s largest energy retrofit scheme reaches 100 home milestone
At a time when the energy crisis is pushing most households towards fuel poverty, Penderi sees the UK’s first community energy sharing scheme, with renewable energy stored and shared fairly between residents. An innovative billing model allows them to receive cheaper electricity and a shared fund to help save money. Once completed, this will be the largest scheme of its kind in the UK, with 650 homes reducing their carbon footprint by up to 350 tonnes a year. Read More

Smile Plastics uses materials including plastic yoghurt pots and bottles to create decorative and durable panels for use in showrooms and commercial and home interiors. Clients include Mercedes-Benz and fashion brand Ganni. It also designs and makes side tables and chopping boards. The company currently operates from Crofty Industrial Estate, but it needs more space and now has planning permission to move to a former factory at Swansea West Business Park. Read More
Industry Support Needed for New High-Tech Sorting Plant to Cut Waste and Boost Recycling
Separating and sorting materials effectively is vital to boost recycling rates and cut waste. This is easier with products made of a single material, such as a drinks can, but much harder with a finished product like a washing machine that contains lots of different materials. This is where a new project, called i-SPACE, comes in. The aim is to build an industrial-scale pilot plant to demonstrate the latest sorting and processing technology and show that it works. Agreement embeds significant community ownership of Môr Glas and Môr Gwyrdd floating wind projects
Hiraeth Energy and Magnora Offshore Wind have agreed to develop two floating offshore wind farms. Hiraeth Energy Partner Joseph Kidd said: “Throughout our development of Môr Glas and Môr Gwyrdd we are determined to maximise the benefits to the supply chain, environment and communities of Wales. The agreement with Magnora Offshore Wind is innovative and breaks new ground for the concept of community ownership for Welsh energy projects”. Read More
EDF wants to build a huge renewable energy park in Neath Port Talbot
EDF Renewables UK is looking to build Hirfynydd Renewable Energy Park near Crynant and Seven Sisters with an installed capacity of 100 MW – enough to power 40,000 homes with what they describe as ‘green electricity’. The company say they would achieve this with a mixture of technologies that include a wind farm with up to seven turbines near the valley communities. Read More
Solar farm of ‘national significance’ and capable of powering 11,500 homes planned for Swansea
Taiyo Power and Storage wants to install thousands of panels between Gorseinon and Fforestfach, covering 34 hectares. The development would include 57 hectares of greenery, including grassland and floodplain storage areas, and sheep would graze among the solar arrays. Read More
Wales’ first electric and hydrogen charging facility for vehicles to be created in Swansea
The hub will provide zero carbon power for cars and public transport vehicles. It is the first time both electric and hydrogen power will be available on one site in Wales. This is the latest element of the £1.7 billion Blue Eden renewable energy project in Swansea. Read More

Mysterious seagull artwork appears across Welsh town
The images have popped up in Tenby. One image shows a number of seagulls standing on top of each other in a human being’s raincoat, as if walking down a street, while another shows a seagull attacking a child by attempting to take off their hat. Another depicts a bird holding a balloon in its mouth, and there is one of seagulls surrounding a box marked ‘food bank’ which is full of chips. One of Swansea’s most famous gay venues is returning for a reunion party
A popular gay venue is returning for one night only this month in a bid to revive the scene in Swansea. ‘Champers’ was a gay bar which many fondly remember as a safe space for gay people. in the 80s, 90s, 00s before closing in the last decade. In an effort to connect the iconic history of Champers to the queer community Jess and Lucy have brought together through their alternative club nights on September 16 and are calling it ‘PYNK & Elysium’s Champers Reunion’. Swansea Street Food Warehouse is coming back in September and this is what you can expect
Street Food Warehouse will bring a variety of food and traders back to Swansea from September 9 to 11 and it promises more variety with a new £5 ‘feast dish’ to encourage visitors to try more food than before.
