New plant will double Wales’ plastic reprocessing capacity
A £45 million investment is set to more than double Wales’ plastic reprocessing capacity and create over 100 new jobs at the former Toyoda Gosei factory in Swansea. Jayplas will develop an advanced facility capable of processing at least 100,000 tonnes of flexible and rigid plastics a year. Once fully operational, it will reduce the carbon footprint of Wales by around 150,000 tonnes per year, the equivalent of taking 120,000 cars off the road. Read More
Council and Egni Co-op work together to tackle climate change
Pembrokeshire County Council has awarded a contract for the installation of rooftop solar panels on 20 local schools and leisure centres to Welsh social enterprise, Egni Co-op. It’s estimated that the solar panels will prevent the emission of approximately 200 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year and should save the schools and leisure centres £180,000 per year in energy costs. Project is bearing the fruit – and veg – of its labour by unearthing first harvest
A project aiming to supply Morriston Hospital with fruit and vegetables has moved a step closer after its first harvest of crops. Not-for-profit organisation Cae Felin CSA is growing crops on land owned by the health board near the hospital. Staff have been volunteering to help the CSA work towards its long-term goal of growing fruit and veg for patient meals in Morriston Hospital, selling food boxes and also providing them for low income and deprived areas. A place that changed the world: a visit to Neath Abbey Ironworks

You don’t get much closer to our rail network than Neath Abbey Ironworks: a viaduct designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel carries the mainline from London right over the site. Medieval gold ring among treasure found on Gower
Two treasure finds, including a medieval gold finger-ring and a post-medieval silver seal-matrix have been found on the Gower Peninsula. The cast gold ring has an octagonal hollow bezel, with the remains of a dark red cabochon stone setting, probably garnet. Emma Williams, Collections & Access Officer at Swansea Museum said: “These finds will make a really wonderful addition to the museum’s collections and will help us to tell more of Swansea’s story.” Read More
Blue Lagoon in Pembrokeshire closes early with public access halted to protect baby seals
About half the world’s population of grey seal breed on our coastline and the total number in west Wales, mostly Pembrokeshire, is estimated to be about 5,000, with some 1,400 pups being born each year. The breeding season is vital for the seal colonies in Pembrokeshire and visitors are asked not to access the Blue Lagoon and follow the guidelines laid out by the Seal Alliance and Pembrokeshire Marine Code when on the coastal path. Luminate light trail confirmed for return to Margam Park with dates and ticket details announced
Luminate is a spectacular trail which lights up its surroundings within the beautiful Margam Country Park. The event will officially return on November 22 and will be there until December 31. The trail takes between an hour to an hour and a half to complete and organisers say that the route has been “carefully redesigned for 2023”, retaining last year’s highlights but reimagined to include some new additions with the hopes of ensuring this year is the best yet. Welsh language music festival returns to Swansea
A project, which aims to boost the Welsh language music scene in Swansea, returns for a second year this autumn. Last year over 4,000 people attended the 28 events featuring performances by artists using the Welsh language in their work. Be You, Be Creative was designed by then-student, now recent graduate Huw Edwards, who studied BA Graphic Design at UWTSD.
