Latest Wellbeing Survey Offers Chance to Share your Pandemic Experiences
A pioneering study examining the impact of Covid-19 on the mental health and wellbeing of Welsh people is appealing for more information from the public. You can take part in the latest survey now. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t been part of the research so far, anyone is welcome to join, the answers can be given online or via post or email and respondents will remain anonymous. Swansea Council are seeking to appoint contractors to provide environmental facilities works, the supply and fit of a modular building and pathways, a road safety average speed camera, servicing and maintenance of renewable technologies, corporate WiFi access point replacement, VMware maintenance and support, the refurbishment of Phoenix Centre’s multi-use sports pitch and pitched and flat roofing works.

Supply of a Wafer Cleaving System
This tender is for the supply and installation of a wafer cleaving system. This system will be of strategic importance in expanding the capabilities that the CISM at Swansea University will be able to provide, and reliability of the equipment is paramount to maintaining and supporting the wide array of experimental work that will be conducted within the facility. Contract Notices for Carmarthenshire Council
Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking applications for the development of an interpretation plan, exhibition design and fit-out installation for Parc Howard Museum in Llanelli. They are also seeking suitably qualified suppliers to supply and install stairlifts, hoists, through-floor lifts and external platform lifts in domestic properties in Carmarthenshire via a dynamic purchasing system.

Provision of a Vehicle Tracking System

Tendering Opportunities for Neath Port Talbot Council
Neath Port Talbot is looking for contractors to manage household waste and recycling centre services, restore three disused sites to repurpose into mini nature reserves as part of their Stepping Stones nature reserves project and provide a children and young people’s overnight short break service.

DEVELOPMENT

Installation of gold-coloured panels nears completion at arena
Installation of all gold-coloured panels surrounding Swansea Arena is now just about complete. Over 1,600 of the panels have been installed – each equipped with LED lights to enable the hosting of displays around the attraction. It’s another milestone for the £135m Copr Bay phase one district, which is being developed by Swansea Council and advised by development managers RivingtonHark. Read More

Work set to start on site at Swansea city centre local services hub
A big step is about to be taken in the creation of a new central Swansea location for the city’s main library and other key services. Contractors have begun preparatory work in the former BHS/What! building. In under two years it is due to be a local services hub. Current proposals are that it will offer easy access to council services, including the library that’s set to move from the Civic Centre. Read More

Go ahead for new team to deliver transformational Afan Valley resort
A new delivery team has been given conditional planning approval to take forward the transformational Afan Valley leisure resort project which could create hundreds of jobs and provide significant social and environmental benefits for communities in the area. Now named the Wildfox Resort Afan Valley, the adventure resort will encompass a hotel, hundreds of lodges, cafes, bars and facilities for skiing, hiking, cycling and other outdoor pursuits. Budget 2021 Levelling Up Fund: The schemes in South West Wales to receive extra funding
A cycle path between Llandeilo and Carmarthen, improvements to Haverfordwest Castle, a community hub in Pembroke and other projects are among some of the projects that will benefit from £54.3m in “Levelling up” funding for the region. Read More

Swansea Bay City Region £30m City Deal skills project gets government sign off
Over the next decade the Skills and Talent programme aims to deliver 2,200 additional skills and development opportunities by helping around 14,000 people upskill. Additionally, at least 3,000 new apprenticeship opportunities will be created. The programme will also create centres of excellence within sectors, including for digital, energy and wellbeing.  Read More

The new £20m facility to help firms in the Swansea Bay City region decarbonise
Led by Neath Port Talbot Council and key partner Swansea University, SWITCH (South Wales Industrial Transition from Carbon Hub) will see academic researchers, government and industry collaborating to deliver practical innovative solutions to decarbonise the steel and metals sector and supply chain. Inside The Jam Jar – Swansea’s newest independent music bar and kitchen

The Jam Jar, owned and directed by Sin City owner Gary Lulham, is offering free, unticketed live music, comedy and quiz nights. It also serves cocktails and will have a monthly street food vendor – starting with Chang’s Street Food Kitchen. Gary said: “The Jam Jar targets a different demographic than Sin City. The Jam Jar is more about jazz, blues, Motown, soul, catering more toward the 25+ demographic. With that being said, everybody is welcome here.” Read More

Utopia Cocktail Bar is a “unique experience” venue that prioritises the experience for the customer alongside its inventive and classic mixed drinks. With the venue featuring large neon lights, a penny piece bar counter and large artificial trees ‘growing’ out of the bar, the space has been uniquely designed to be a social media hub for party goers on the start or end of their nights out.  Read More

Swansea Gift Card will Help Shoppers Show Support for City Centre Businesses
Swansea BID is urging shoppers and visitors to show their love for Swansea city centre businesses by backing its new Big Heart of Swansea gift card. The card, which will be exclusive to Swansea city centre, is designed to boost local spending and customer loyalty and to support BID area businesses as the city centre goes through its recovery stage. It can be loaded with money from £5 to £500 and spent in participating Swansea city centre stores. Read More

Juniper Place and Old Havana open new venues in Neath as coffee shop Moruzzi & Co closes down
Two new restaurant-lounge-bars have opened in Neath, as Welsh firm Juniper Place and Old Havana expand their operations. The two brands launched in Swansea in 2017 and now also have venues in Cardiff. They have taken over a unit in Croft Road, Neath town centre – which has been the home of family-run coffee shop Moruzzi & Co for the past seven years. Read More

Market shoppers set to enjoy a stunning new attraction at famous venue
An exciting new era for Swansea Market has started. The iconic venue is about to become yet more welcoming to people who shop, work and live in the city centre. The green-themed Market Garden – due to open in good time for Christmas – will feature more than 170 plants together with an assortment of comfortable, garden-style tables and chairs for visitors to enjoy food and drink bought from a wide variety of market stalls. Law Firm Opens New Ammanford Office
Leading regional law firm Peter Lynn and Partners has opened a new Ammanford office, with leading local lawyer Gary Jones joining as a consultant after closing his highly regarded practice. The site, located on College Street in the town centre (opposite The Co-op), is the third West Wales office to be opened over the last 15 months and marks a spectacular period of growth for the firm. Study Highlights Possible Protective Impact of Breast Milk and Amniotic Fluid on Coronavirus Variant in Pregnant Women and Newborns
Breastfeeding could protect you and your baby from coronavirus. New collaborative research from Swansea University and the University of Aberdeen has identified potential protective effects in breast milk and amniotic fluid against SARS-CoV-2. Read More

Eco pop-up shop proves successful at Swansea’s Quadrant shopping centre
Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centre took part in a eco-shop trial last month at one of its empty retail units. The Little Green Shop opened in a former mobile phone shop unit. The three week opening slot allowed Swansea Environment Centre to showcase its ethical goods, refills and unique items, along with its environmental vision to a new audience of shoppers in the heart of the city centre. The pop-up is part of a wider project run by Urban Foundry. Read More

£1.7 billion Blue Eden project announced for Swansea
A £1.7 billion project creating thousands of well-paid jobs and placing Wales at the forefront of renewable energy innovation has been announced by an international consortium. The ground-breaking project proposed for Swansea’s waterfront will include a newly-designed tidal lagoon, featuring state-of-the-art underwater turbines generating 320 megawatts of renewable energy from the 9.5km structure. Read More

Pembrokeshire craft brewery looks to reduce CO2 emissions using microalgae
A Pembrokeshire microbrewery has teamed up with Swansea University bioscientists to help reduce its CO2 emissions. Bluestone Brewing Co is using the CO2 emissions produced from the brewing process to cultivate microalgae, which can then be used as biomass in a range of products. If successful, it is hoped that the solution will be replicable for other small scale CO2 producing companies. Read More

Carmarthenshire Council plans to introduce electric buses on rural routes
Electric buses could be taking passengers on a rural service between Carmarthen, Lampeter and Aberystwyth by the end of next year. The Welsh Government has given Carmarthenshire Council £4.8 million to build a new depot in Carmarthen and buy eight electric buses. The council has now applied for planning permission for the timber clad depot, which will include charging points for the eight buses. Read More

You can now stay in this gorgeous little thatched cottage in Swansea’s favourite park
Ever fancied a little break away in a fairytale-style thatched cottage? The unique and individual detached, two-bedroom, thatched roof cottage was originally built in the 1830s as one of Singleton Park’s gatehouses and boasts a wealth of history. If you fancied moving in but couldn’t afford it, an opportunity has now come up to at least get a sense of what it would be like to live there, thanks to the new owner who has turned it into an Airbnb property. Swansea Christmas Parade and Waterfront Winterland 2021 details announced as events set to return
The Christmas Parade and Waterfront Winterland WILL take place this Christmas, Swansea Council has confirmed. Preparations are said to be already underway for the Christmas Parade, which will take place on November 21, 2021, and plans are in place for the popular Waterfront Winterland and its Alpine Village to return to its usual site in Museum Park from mid-November. In It Together festival lineup: First names announced for massive new Margam event including The Vaccines, Tinie Tempah and Scouting for Girls
The first wave of performers for an epic new music festival coming to Wales next summer has been announced. Chart-toppers including Scouting for Girls, The Vaccines, Tinie Tempah, The Hoosiers, Gabrielle, Gwenno and Soul 2 Soul are among the first list of stars confirmed for In It Together festival in June 2022. Paloma Faith is performing a gig at Llanelli’s Parc y Scarlets next summer
Awarding-winning singer Paloma Faith will be touring the UK next summer and she will be performing a gig in Wales. The concert will take place on Saturday June 18 2022. Paloma said “I am beyond excited to announce my Summer 2022 tour. I love nothing more than singing for you all and hearing you sing back to me. There’s nothing like it.” Read More

Hostel where you can stay for £20 a night opens in Swansea city centre
Cwtsh Hostel overlooks Castle Square and is a combination of pod and private accommodation. A single pod bed is £20 a night, £25 a night for the four bed dorm. The private rooms start at £50 a night. Managing director Llyr Roberts said: “Cwtsh is a Cwtsh, it’s home, so that’s where the idea for the name came from and trying to play the Welsh theme. We’re looking at some other things like having introductory Welsh classes, a few things in terms of Welsh tourism.” Read More

Glamping pods and holiday cottages to be built near famous steam railway
The site, opposite the Bronwydd Arms railway station, has two empty semi-detached cottages which will be knocked down and replaced with two similar-looking four-bedroom ones. There will be a glamping pod in the front garden and two in the rear – two of them converted railway carriages. Read More

The Grand Hotel in Swansea is looking to expand and achieve a 4 star rating
A landmark Swansea city centre hotel has lodged significant expansion plans. The Grand Hotel in Swansea’s High Street has asked Swansea Council for the go-ahead to build a five storey rear extension, a two storey front extension and a room terrace in order to create an additional 42 new rooms. Those behind the three star hotel want to carry out the move in order for it to become a four star rated venue in future. Read More

Will Young Swansea Arena tour date announced as line-up for new venue grows
Another singer has joined the list of big names set to perform at Swansea Arena next year: Will Young. The 42-year-old singer-songwriter joins an all-star line-up including Rob Brydon, Katherine Ryan, Rhod Gilbert, Alice Cooper and The Cult, John Bishop, Oti Mabuse and Diversity in the new 3,500 capacity arena’s inaugural year. Will Young is set to perform in Swansea Arena on November 10, 2022. Read More

Llanelli’s reindeer parade, Christmas Carnival and fireworks plans announced for 2021
Christmas lovers, rejoice: Llanelli’s annual Christmas carnival is back, and this year it promises a full weekend jam-packed with festival celebrations. The two-day event will feature a traditional carnival procession with a light switch-on, a reindeer parade, and a fireworks display that will have low-noise fireworks as well traditional ones. More new businesses run by local entrepreneurs have opened at Milford Waterfront, including The Cheesy Cow, Dilly’s Chocolates and The Cheeky Sheep, offering new unique shopping experiences to Milford Waterfront visitors. Steve Edwards, Commercial Director for the Port of Milford Haven commented: “It is great to see so many locally homegrown businesses taking the next step here at Milford Waterfront and expanding into shops and cafes.” Read More

Nine current and former students from Gower College Swansea have been named as national finalists at WorldSkills UK, clearing the way for them to compete for gold, silver and bronze medals this month.
