Flats and shipping container-style business units get okay for Swansea centre
A six-storey block consisting of affordable flats and commercial units will be built between The Strand and High Street. A shipping container-style scheme for businesses will be built alongside on a grassy area by Kings Lane, directly behind the Basekamp cafe. The project by Coastal Housing Group, which has developed the mixed-use Urban Village, could one day be followed by more flats, commercial units and a communal garden the other side of Kings Lane. A former office block in Swansea city centre which council planning officers said could be knocked down and turned into a car park may get a new lease of life as flats. Housing association Coastal Housing Group and development partner Morganstone want to convert the former Ty Gwalia building in The Kingsway and add two storeys to create a 48-flat development potentially with a couple of ground-floor offices. Swansea Council is ready to hand over the High Street building to Tramshed Tech, who will operate the building when it reopens on Thursday November 7. Plans submitted for ‘transformational’ town centre development
The proposals could see a UK Government-backed scheme worth £15m to update Port Talbot’s Civic Square as well as the adjacent Princess Royal Theatre. If given the go-ahead it would include remodelling and refurbishment work at the popular Princess Royal Theatre as well as replacing existing surfaces with new, more modern, durable and attractive materials. Blocks of flats in Llanelli to get solar panels, new heating systems and cladding in major overhaul
Three blocks flats in Llanelli are getting a £2.5 million makeover which their owner Pobl Group said will cut residents’ energy bills and be better for the environment. The retrofit project at Sunny Hill includes external wall insulation and replacement windows for 32 one and two-bedroom flats, plus new heating systems and solar panel and battery installation. There’ll also be new entrance canopies, metal railings, trees and shrubs. Read More

Plans for a new public sector hub on a chunk of land set aside for wholesale redevelopment could get the go-ahead in Swansea next week. Swansea Christmas Parade 2024: Exciting new feature revealed and everything else you need to know
The free city centre procession, organised by Swansea Council, will take place on Sunday, November 17, five weeks before the big day itself. As the parade makes its way through the city centre, giant illuminated floats will light up the streets, creating a kaleidoscope of colour as they glide by, flanked by energetic performers and marching bands. Pembrokeshire College opens ‘state-of-the-art’ Energy Transition Skills Hub supported by Shell UK
A ‘state-of-the-art’ Energy Transition Skills Hub has been officially opened at Pembrokeshire College in Haverfordwest. Through an immersive and interactive learning experience, the hub will focus on providing the skills and knowledge to find employment in energy projects. The hub aims to train 600 individuals by July 2026, providing Pembrokeshire and West Wales with a pool of talent suitable for offshore floating wind farms and hydrogen power plants. Read More
Egypt Centre wins major funding boost to improve facilities
Thanks to £300,000 of Welsh Government support. Swansea University’s Egypt Centre is set to revamp and improve its House of Death gallery. Wales’ only dedicated museum of ancient Egyptian antiquities, it attracts around 20,000 visitors a year and is home to several internationally significant collections, most recently taking possession of a restored coffin that dates back more than 2,000 years. A significant milestone has been reached at Gower College Swansea’s Gorseinon Campus where a major redevelopment project has officially begun, marking a substantial investment in teaching and learning for all students.
