Plans to refurbish Pontardawe Arts Centre revealed
The plans to extend the popular Pontardawe Arts Centre will see the the upgrading of facilities at the building which is said to be of “architectural and cultural significance to the area,” with a new 70-seat cinema, alongside improvements to the café and bar, as well as a redesigned ticket office area, and various other cosmetic enhancements. The site is well known as a cultural hub in the Swansea Valley, with its traditional theatre that hosts a range of events. Read More
Investigation works set for city centre development site in Swansea
Early site investigation works are soon taking place as plans to transform the former St David’s Shopping Centre area in Swansea gather pace. The works will be undertaken by regeneration specialist Urban Splash as part of working up proposals for the site in partnership with experienced real estate company Milligan. Urban Splash is Swansea Council’s long-term regeneration partner for a number of sites in the city centre and on the waterfront. Read More
Tidal Turbine Successfully Trialled at Wales’ Marine Energy Test Area
The device is being developed by researchers at Swansea University led by Prof Ian Masters, who said “It is a real privilege to be testing tidal energy in a realistic tidal flow. META has enabled us to take our research out of the lab and into the real world. We have gathered valuable data which we’re going to share with the scientific community, providing the tidal energy community with data needed to move more quickly towards commercial viability.” Read More
Retailers and coffee shop operator wanted for Kingsway development
Retailers are wanted for a number of new units forming part of the 71/72 Kingsway development in Swansea city centre. Several retail units measuring between 500 square feet and 2,500 square feet will be located at street level, fronting onto The Kingsway. Investment to Boost Neath Port Talbot’s Digital Connectivity Ambitions
The Swansea Bay City Deal’s Digital Infrastructure Programme is set to transform connectivity in Neath Port Talbot with a significant investment of approximately £505,000, part of the broader £1.7 million initiative spanning the region. The proposed plans are set to bring futureproofing connectivity to 68 public sector assets across the Swansea Bay City Deal region and 401 additional premises, driving economic growth and digital transformation. Improving mobile connectivity in Swansea city centre
An agreement between Swansea Council and Freshwave will see small cell technology installed on street lighting to help boost network capacity during busy times. The small cells also support the potential implementation of other technology to monitor things like smart bins and air pollution. First look inside the new retro arcade which has opened in Swansea
Martin and Bethany Proctor have launched new business Retro Revolution at High Street Arcade in the city centre. Plan to create floating offshore wind energy hub at port

Associated British Ports wants Port Talbot to be at the forefront of a new floating offshore wind industry in Wales. Pembrokeshire embraces future with new e-bike scheme
The council has introduced a “pay as you go” e-bike service in Haverfordwest, Fishguard, Goodwick, and Tenby as part of a 12-month trial. The scheme, managed by Zeus Mobility, features the Zip bikes – electrically powered bicycles designed to make cycling less strenuous and more accessible to a broader demographic. Each location will start with 10 e-bikes, with plans to increase the fleet to 50 by summer. Read More
The novel new way of heating key Swansea buildings linked to an exciting development which is now being explored
A district heating network in Swansea using energy from a large data storage centre is set to be explored in detail. The data centre is one component of the £4 billion Blue Eden project. Data centres are facilities which house computing and networking equipment. They generate a lot of heat and consume a lot of electricity, partly to keep the equipment cool. District heating networks send waste heat from industrial buildings along pipes to homes and businesses. Read More
Big step forward for plans for turbines almost as tall as London’s The Shard in Wales
The proposed site which would hold up to 18 turbines, and be named Y Bryn wind-farm, sits on Welsh Government woodland estate managed by Natural Resources Wales – and would fall largely within Neath Port Talbot. The project proposes some of the tallest turbines in the UK, measuring between 206 to 230 metres, and up to 250 metres to tip, along with turbine foundations, external transformer housings, a control building, and battery/energy storage facility. Pembroke Power Station hydrogen fuel production hopes rise
A public consultation on plans to develop a green hydrogen production facility next to Pembroke Power Station has been launched. RWE Pembroke Green Hydrogen will facilitate the generation of green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is produced from water, using energy obtained from renewable sources. The hydrogen can then be used to decarbonise local industrial activities in South Wales, by displacing their current fossil fuel usage. Read More
