New Car Boosts Donor Milk Hub’s Vital Support for Sick and Premature Babies
More babies in Wales will benefit from the arrival of a new electric vehicle to support donor milk collections. Last year Swansea University, Swansea Bay University Health Board and the Human Milk Foundation announced a partnership that saw the first donor milk hub set up in Wales. The hub, located in Singleton Hospital, allows more babies to receive donor milk in neonatal intensive care units, and enables more local women to donate their surplus milk. Read More

Cleaner Greener Steel: Virtual Technology Assesses Hydrogen as Fuel for Furnaces, to Slash Carbon Emissions
A low-carbon green economy needs steel, for example for products such as wind turbines, trains or electric cars. Steel can also be recycled infinitely, with no loss of quality, however the process of manufacturing steel remains carbon-intensive. Steel experts from Swansea University have been part of a new project looking at switching to hydrogen from fossil fuels. If it proves feasible, it would slash the carbon emissions from steelmaking. Blue Gem secures marine licence for floating wind project Erebus
A pioneering floating wind project off the Pembrokeshire coastline which will provide enough low carbon energy to power 93,000 homes has secured a marine licence. Erebus, Wales’ first planned floating windfarm is located approximately 40km off the coast, and will house seven next generation 14MW turbines on floating platforms. Blue Gem Wind, the joint venture between TotalEnergies, one of the world’s largest energy companies, and Simply Blue Group, secured the licence for a 100MW project. Read More
Huge battery storage plant planned in Swansea could allow more wind and solar farms to be built
A multi-million pound battery energy system which could provide electricity for hundreds of thousands of householders has been proposed in Swansea. The system, which includes a substation, could store excess electricity and then return it to the grid when demand rises. Innova Renewables Ltd, which is seeking pre-application advice from Swansea Council, said large-scale storage of this type helped manage fluctuations in demand and could facilitate the expansion of intermittent, renewable energy.
