College’s Green Hwb officially launched
Gower College Swansea welcomed a very special guest to the official launch of their Green Hwb. Iolo Williams, a renowned advocate for environmental conservation and a familiar face from TV, was given a tour of the facilities and spent time chatting to students. The College has offered landscaping and eco construction courses since 2019 but now – with the launch of the Green Hwb – students will have a dedicated space in which to learn and relax. Read More
New Season of Documentary Project to Celebrate Gower Set for University Premiere
The latest part of a unique film project involving students, staff and the community to showcase the beauty of Gower will receive its premiere at Swansea University’s Taliesin Arts Centre on June 5th. The series is a collection of films letting you witness the local history, culture, flora, and fauna that make the region unique. Each film is a step towards understanding and preserving the natural and cultural heritage of Gower and Wales. Read More

Gavin Griffiths Group Makes Key Strategic Appointment for New Division
Recycling and waste management firm, Gavin Griffiths Group, has appointed Chris Taylor-King as Joint Managing Director of the company’s new Innovation Division. Chris will share the role with Jon Hearing, the current Technical Director of Gavin Griffiths Group. Work to restart at major Swansea development
Work will soon restart at a major Swansea development with a target to open the new multi-storey car park by the end of the year. Swansea Council has appointed Andrew Scott Ltd to carry out the works at Copr Bay. The completion of the car park, retail units and other finishing works will follow-on from a project that’s already delivered Swansea Arena, the coastal park, the car park under the arena and the new bridge over Oystermouth Road. A hidden staircase, and a collapsing roof but Swansea’s Palace Theatre comes back to life
Tramshed Tech, the company that will operate Swansea’s new-look Palace Theatre, said it’s honoured to breathe new life into the 136-year-old building. The Palace Theatre is steeped in history and has risen, almost fallen and risen once more thanks to a £10 million-plus renovation which remains ongoing. Contractor R&M Williams Ltd began work on site in 2021. Among the surprises were the discovery of a secret staircase and a fox which had made a home there. Read More

Pembroke Port Welcomes First Vessel to New Workboat Pontoons
Sharon Adams, Commercial Manager for Pembroke Port, said “It’s great to see these new assets being utilised. Pembroke Port is perfectly positioned within the Port of Milford Haven to act as a hub for operations associated with marine activity taking place within the Port and the Celtic Sea. Three flagship city developments near completion
Three flagship Swansea developments are now close to being completed. The Albert Hall is due to reopen next month, construction work is due for completion at 71/72 Kingsway in the coming months, and a sensitive overhaul of the Palace Theatre is expected to lead to its reopening this year. Read More
Major working and living boost on way for city centre
Well over a thousand extra people will soon be living and working in Swansea city centre in a further boost for traders and local employment. As well as schemes like the Palace Theatre’s restoration and the 71/72 Kingsway office project being developed by Swansea Council, a number of other developments being led by the private sector are also either close to completion or making considerable progress. Burger Boyz has announced it is about to open its third location in Swansea. It will be part of the food court at the newly-renovated Albert Hall in June. The food court will also include parmesan fried chicken restaurant Mr Croquewich, Greek street food venue Ya Souvlaki, Pizza Boyz, Indian Street Food Kitchen, Italian street food The Italian Job, and Academy, which will sell speciality coffee and cocktails. New pub & restaurant ‘Town Crier’ pays homage to one of Tenby’s great ambassadors
A new Tenby pub and restaurant will pay homage to one of the town’s best-known characters who previously ran popular toy shop Clarice at the premises. The ‘Town Crier’, being developed on Upper Frog Street is named as a nod to John Thomas, affectionately known as Yobbler, who was Tenby’s town crier for over 30 years and one of the longest-serving in Wales. Along with his wife Caroline, the couple ran Clarice for many years, before he passed away in 2011. Read More
The incredible story of how a Welsh community rallied to buy and re-open its only pub
The Crymych Arms, in the village of Crymych, had been closed since September 2021. Its long-time owners decided they wanted to retire after running the pub for nearly 40 years. That meant, for the first time since at least the mid-1800s, Crymych didn’t have a pub. Just over a year later, a meeting was held to see if there was any local interest in raising enough money to form a community benefit society that could not only buy the pub but run it, too. Floating homes and giant glass domes revealed as part of futuristic £6.25bn Swansea project
New images have been released of what we can expect a huge £6.25bn renewable energy scheme set to change the way energy is stored and used across Swansea to look like. The Swansea Port Development Project, formerly known as Blue Eden, proposes a battery manufacturing centre on land at Swansea docks, waterside homes, an oceanic and climate change research centre, and a Swansea Bay tidal lagoon. New Seawall Will be a Home for Marine Life – Research at the Heart of Eco-Engineering Project
As a new seawall takes shape in Mumbles, a Swansea University expert has revealed how its design will help encourage biodiversity, thanks to careful research and collaboration. The upgraded and strengthened 1.2 km seawall will help protect the Mumbles area from flooding and is designed to last for many decades to come. It will also hopefully become a home for marine species such as seaweed, limpets and barnacles. Read More
UK’s first electric Mobile Post Office trialled in Pembrokeshire
Pembroke Postmaster Mark Wilson and his team operate a Mobile Post Office serving 11 communities in rural Pembrokeshire. He has swapped his previous diesel vehicle for an electric one. The distinctively decorated vehicle has been put through its paces for the past few weeks to check that the battery-powered branch can cope with the hilly terrain. It has shown that the more environmentally friendly vehicle is viable. Read More
Crown Estate launch £50m fund to boost indigenous supply chain for floating offshore wind
Its Supply Chain Accelerator programme is seeking expressions of interest for a first phase £10m round of funding, which has been designed to support the development of a new UK supply chain capability for floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea. The Crown Estate, through its now live leasing round five, is inviting bidders to deliver three major floating offshore wind farms off the coasts of South West Wales and the South West of England. Swansea University’s bike hire scheme has seen users increase by almost 300%
Swansea University’s bike hire scheme has seen a 280% increase in users across the city over the past four years. And one sixth (14%) of daily commuter journeys made by students and staff at the University are by bike (compared to Welsh national average of 1.1%). 2022 saw more than 45,000 journeys being made on the Santander Cycles, when six bike hubs for students, staff, and the wider community were made available to use. Wales metaverse is European first, say organisers
The metaverse has been brought to life in partnership with iCreate, whose Founder Dawn Lyle is also one of the Co-Founders of 4theRegion. She said “Our aim is to bring the endless possibilities of Wales to life in an immersive experience of exploration, helping audiences plan their dream itinerary in Wales while they complete mini-quests in the metaverse experience.” Read More
Tourism Brings More Than £600m to Swansea Bay Economy
New figures show visitors spent £609 million throughout 2023 in Swansea, Mumbles and Gower. The figures also show that visitor numbers increased to more than 4.7 million last year with the tourism industry supporting 5,470 jobs. Swansea Bay, as a visitor destination, offers an increasingly diverse range of indoor and outdoor attractions and events all year-round, including the city’s new Penderyn Distillery visitor centre in Landore which opened last year. He’s one of Port Talbot’s favourite sons and now he’s been celebrated in his hometown. A mural by one of Wales’ leading street artists Jenks has appeared in Bridge Street in the town centre. The striking artwork in the street art capital of Wales brilliantly captures the Hollywood star in his later yeas and features one of his most famous quotes: ‘I love life because what more is there?’ Read More
Welsh beauty spot becomes one of the best sites in the UK for one type of animal
Megan Price, an ecologist for Neath Port Talbot Council, said “Margam Park is an amazing site for bats. It’s a big site at around 850 hectares which means we’ve got a large variety of habitats here like woodlands, open grasslands and a variety of buildings that bats can use. I think nearly every structure in the park is used by bats as a roost with a lot of tree features for them as well.” Read More

Small Worlds tells an intimate father-son story set between South London and Ghana over the course of three summers. Caleb Azumah Nelson was awarded the £20,000 global accolade – celebrating exceptional literary talent aged 39 or under – at a ceremony held in Swansea on Thursday 16 May. Complete University Guide 2025: Swansea University Ranked in UK Top 40
Swansea University has achieved notable recognition in the 2025 Complete University Guide rankings, securing its position in 37th place in the UK. The main league table ranks 130 UK universities based on measures including entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality and graduate prospects. Swansea is one of only four Welsh institutions out of eight to have improved their rank this year and is the second highest ranked Welsh institution in the guide. Read More
