Creating thriving communities in Haverfordwest

This will include the construction of 42 homes for social rent which, as testament to Pobl’s commitment to sustainability, will be equipped with air source heat pumps and solar panels, contributing to a greener future for residents. Major Swansea city centre regeneration plans move forward
A planning application has been approved by Swansea Council for the former St David’s Centre and other land around Oystermouth Road. Proposals include a multi-storey car park, arena, up to 13-storey hotel and energy centre. A public sector hub, new city office quarter and public open space and public realm are also proposed. Urban Splash is Swansea Council’s long-term regeneration partner for a number of sites in the city centre and on the waterfront. Read More

The winners of the RICS Awards 2024 in Wales have been revealed with a Swansea project making the list. Hafod Copperworks Distillery and Visitor Centre in Landore was described by the judges as an exemplar of restoration and preservation. The combination of two grade II listed historical landmarks, once part of a pivotal hub in the copper industry, has been meticulously completed, showcasing a harmonious blend of heritage and modern functionality. What new sports and medical tech hub set for Swansea site will look like
Swansea University wants the building, off Sketty Lane, to replace the existing pavilion, which is 92 years old and no longer in the best condition. The hub would comprise laboratories and research, innovation and teaching space. Products which boost sporting performance, rehabilitation and injury prevention would be developed there, creating new jobs. The hub is one element of a campuses health project being delivered as part of the Swansea Bay City Deal. Read More

Jonathan Williams, owner of award-winning restaurant and pub Cafe Mor, said “I thought it’d be great for the pub to have it’s own secret sea garden and be one of the first in Wales to have [one]. We’ve got a kitchen garden which we’re growing at the moment but to have an actual sea garden! University student opens his own restaurant in Swansea
Kevin Blanco Ledesma, a second year BA International Gastronomy Management student at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David is juggling his studies whilst running a newly-opened tapas restaurant Casa Blanco. Kevin, who has previously worked as a head chef at restaurants in Spain and Swansea, credits the University for helping him start his own business and says the support from his lecturers has been fantastic. A popular restaurant in one of Wales’s favourite seaside destinations has officially re-opened, but not as you remember it. It is under the new leadership of owner Sam Sethi, who has kept its name the same. The venture has created ten new full and part-time jobs. But its menu will be completely different, now specialising in Indian cuisine, including a grill and small plates menu, seafood, and a fusion of Indian and western dishes. Read More

After searching for the right venue, Chris Blakeborough-Pownall feels he’s “lucked out” with The Gower Inn. He said “I opened The Gower Inn on May 18, 2024 and locals tell me it’s been really good to have someone who cares, and is in the community, running the pub. New Project to Tackle Tanning Perceptions in Young People, Offering Crucial Boost to Sun-Safety Education in Wales
A Swansea University-led project hopes to help stop the concerning rise of skin cancer in Wales by exploring current perceptions of tanning in children, parents/carers, and educators. The results will support the development of a new sun-safety educational toolkit for the Welsh curriculum. Skin cancer now accounts for half of all cancers in England and Wales, though many, including 86% of melanomas, can be prevented with safer sun exposure. Read More

An agricultural project that grows fruit and vegetables is also serving up mental health and wellbeing benefits to its volunteers. The Cae Felin Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project is based on land owned by Swansea Bay UHB, with health board staff and the public giving up their time to grow crops and plant trees along with creating a space for nature and wildlife to flourish. RWE launches pre-application consultation for Pembroke BESS scheme
RWE has launched a consultation for a battery energy storage system project on land adjacent to Pembroke Power Station. The proposed development would comprise 212 battery containers, 106 power conversion systems enabling connectivity to the grid, and associated infrastructure. Once fully operational, it would be capable of storing enough electricity to meet the average daily domestic energy needs of more than 72,000 typical UK homes. Read More

Temporary fairground planned for popular Welsh seafront this summer
The popular seafront in Aberavon could soon see the inclusion of a temporary funfair, which would contain a number of large rides as well as a carousel. Neath Port Talbot Council invites tenders for the contract with the temporary attraction opening from August 1-11. The Aberavon area was once known for being one of the most popular beaches in Wales during its glory days of the 1950s and 60s with thousands of people flocking there each weekend. Read More

The Carmarthen Music Festival (CMF) returns this summer for its third year and hopes to build on the success of the previous ones.
