Pembrokeshire Outdoor Health Project
Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum, in collaboration with Coed Lleol, recently concluded a highly successful series of outdoor health programmes. All the participants said they would continue to use woodlands and outdoor spaces for recreation. Starting in July, they will run 8 six-week programmes across Pembrokeshire, facilitated by a diverse mix of skilled practitioners to serve as social prescribing opportunities, as well as being accessible by self-referral. Peter Lynn Appointed as Swansea BID’s New Chair
Peter Lynn, commercial lawyer and founder of one of Swansea’s largest law firms, Peter Lynn and Partners Solicitors, has been appointed as the new Chair of Swansea Business Improvement District. Swansea BID, a democratically elected organisation that represents over 800 businesses in the city centre, were the first BID in Wales and since 2006, they have helped make Swansea City Centre a better place to shop, study, stay, visit and do business. An apartments scheme within a masterplan for the Swansea Waterfront site has secured approval. Proposals from Everstock Development Ltd and Coastal Housing Group include 104 affordable dwellings, including 39 one-bedroom two-person apartments, 53 two-bed, three-person apartments and 12 three-bedded five-person apartments. Listed former cinema building in Swansea could be turned into apartment block
An historic listed former cinema building looks set to take on a new lease of life with plans lodged to transform it into a mixed scheme of commercial units and 30 residential apartments. Castle Cinema was opened in Worcester Place in 1913. It finally closed as a cinema in 1991, and is now in use as a Laserzone. The building has become dilapidated over a number of years and now requires investment to ensure its longevity and is brought into an exciting use. Read More
Former department store threatened with demolition could now be turned into flats instead
A former department store and office block threatened with demolition has been bought by a Swansea housing association. Coastal Housing Group wants to convert the old Ty Gwalia building into affordable flats for rent. Over the years The Kingsway site, near the junction with Dillwyn Street, was the House of Kent department store and an Evans Rees Butter packing factory. More latterly it was a Gwalia housing association office, which closed four years ago. Read More
Llandelio’s Old Market opens its doors once again
Constructed in the 1830s, the provisions market had been a key part of Llandeilo’s history up until 2002 when it became disused. The market hall, revamped in a £4.2 million project, will provide a mix of high-quality modern office and business employment space with an onsite café and parking. Groundbreaking Research Examines How the Sequence of Disease Acquisition Affects Life Expectancy
In the UK, it is estimated more than 25% of adults have two or more long-term health conditions. This increases to almost 82% for those aged over 85. This has major implications for the NHS and social care. This research supports a targeted approach for the prevention or delay of multiple health conditions for effective future healthcare planning. Clynfyw has always taken action on tackling climate change and installing the solar system is part of that journey. As electricity costs have gone up such a lot, the panels will save money as the Care Farm is paying Egni Co-op 60% less per kWh compared to their main supplier – this reduces running costs and enables them to continue our work more sustainably. Swansea Council’s first ever solar farm gets the green light
A total of 5,500 panels will be installed on 11 hectares of land at the former Tir John landfill site, Port Tennant. Electricity generated by them will help power a wastewater treatment works a mile away. Longer term the council wants to use all of the land at Tir John for solar panels. The electricity generated by the expanded solar farm could potentially be used to generate hydrogen to power hydrogen buses. Read More
Climate change: Robots help seagrass restoration
Seagrass is known for its ability to store carbon and provide nurseries for fish. Up to 92% of UK seagrass has been lost, but Wales could lead on restoration, conservationists have said. The Welsh Government said it would discuss how to further support seagrass restoration. Project Seagrass, WWF and the Swansea University said the country could also produce methodology that could be applied across the world. Read More

The festival at a Welsh castle being held on one of the ‘most beautiful sites in the UK’
The world’s first trail running and music festival, Love Trails Festival, returns to the Gower. For four days, festival-goers can enjoy a “cherry-picked” selection of DJs and live acts including rapper Biig Piig and drum and base DJ High Contrast, inspirational talks and workshops, coasteering, surfing, wild swimming, yoga, and non-competitive runs ranging from 3km to 55km, at the breath-taking site of Weobley Castle in Llanrhidian. Record-breaking Museum of Land and Speed opens in Pendine
On September 25, 1924, Malcolm Campbell set a world land speed record of 146.16 mph as he raced his precious Sunbeam 350HP Blue Bird across Pendine Sands. Now Campbell’s achievements, plus those of many other racing drivers who set new records in the early 20th century, are being recognised at the recently opened Museum of Land and Speed at Pendine.
