£20,000 secured by PLANED for Pembrokeshire Youth Voice Project
ACES, or Adverse Childhood Experiences, are traumatic events, particularly in early childhood that significantly affect people’s health and well-being in later life. The CWBR Youth project works to give young people more of a voice in their communities, and in this initiative will bring Town and Community Councillors together with local young people to raise awareness of ACES, and co-design ways that they can help tackle them. Everstock Development Ltd and Swansea-based Coastal Housing Group want to develop the brownfield site off King’s Road, SA1. The building would include a cafe facing across a square towards the Ice House. The plan is for 104 affordable one, two and three-bedroom flats, two gardens, undercroft parking for 86 cars together with 17 electric vehicle charging points, and 60 indoor bike spaces. Air-source heat pumps and solar panels might generate heat and light for the flats. Read More
Coastal continues High Street regeneration plans with purchase of historic Kings Arms Tavern
Coastal’s Executive Director of Development and Regeneration, Kelly Thomas, said “It’s an important building, both historically for Swansea and in terms of Coastal’s options for further development in High Street. Our focus right now is on upgrade works to restore the listed building to its former glory. Swansea skatepark latest pictures as project almost completed and opening date in sight
Work at the Llwynderw site, near Blackpill, is expected to finished this month with a formal launch in April. Before redevelopment began the skatepark consisted of one dreary-looking mini half-pipe but this was dismantled and the project has transformed the skatepark beyond recognition. The park now follows the sloping profile of the site and the surrounding land will be landscaped with trees retained and picnic tables, bins, and a supply of drinking water. Read More
Swansea’s beloved old Castle Gardens to return with a new greener look for the square as plans are agreed
Council planning officers have approved a scheme to add more trees, lawns and other greenery, and to create two pavilion buildings for food, drink or retail businesses. There will also be a new water feature, seating areas and a large television above a bandstand-style facility. It’ll be a modern, functional and well maintained public space which can accommodate a range of events, arts and cultural experiences. Read More

New office development build reaches street level
Developed by Swansea Council, initial building work for two basement floors of the 71/72 Kingsway scheme has been completed, paving the way for construction of three more storeys at street level and above. Bouygues UK are main contractors for the project, which once complete will be carbon zero in operation and worth £32.6m a year to Swansea’s economy. It will include 114,000 square feet of commercial floor space featuring flexible co-working and networking opportunities. Read More

A fresh milkshake vending machine business that made UK-wide headlines for innovation during the pandemic has set up in Swansea city centre. Hendy-based Llaeth Beynon Dairy has set up the vending machines in the area of the former St David’s Shopping Centre, close to the bottom of the new bridge over Oystermouth Road. Customers can buy either milk or 12 flavours of milkshake, which can be poured in free takeaway cups or reusable glass bottles. Read More

Blue Eden is being taken forward by Batri Ltd and DST Innovations with support from the council. The phased project at SA1 aims to deliver an electric battery manufacturing plant and battery storage facility, a tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay and floating solar farm within it, a data storage centre, a green hydrogen production facility, an oceanic and climate change research centre, and hundreds of waterfront homes. Swansea will soon be home to the “world’s biggest and most unique” 60-minute escape room as staff are gearing up to open it to the public this month. Plantasia Tropical Zoo in Parc Tawe retail park in the city centre is already home to a wide range of tropical plants and more than 40 animals and it will soon house a huge escape room experience, named Jungle Escape, too. An underpass in the village of Llangennech in Llanelli has been covered with eye-catching murals, including one of the area’s favourite sons, Huw Edwards, the village church, the crests of Llangennech’s football, rugby and cricket clubs, Morlais river, Morlais colliery and a miner, a steam train, and a huge name of the village. Rembrandt painting on display at Carmarthenshire Museum in Abergwili
The art piece, called Saskia van Uylenburgh in Arcadian Costume will be able to be viewed by the public until April 23 and has been loaned by the National Gallery in London. Rembrandt is generally considered one of the greatest visual artists of all time and one of the most important in the history of Dutch art. The loan of the painting to Carmarthenshire, is part of the National Gallery Masterpiece Tour 2021–23 and admission to the museum in Abergwili is free. Read More
