Pobl Group, in collaboration with Castell Group and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, is excited to announce a new housing development. The project involves the demolition of the former Neath Working Men’s Club and the construction of 36 new homes, consisting of 32 one-bedroom apartments and 4 two-bedroom apartments. People have started digging holes in Swansea’s Castle Square and this is why

If you’ve passed by Castle Square in Swansea city centre recently you’ve probably noticed some work taking place. Workers in orange hi-vis jackets have even been digging holes there. They are carrying out the first steps towards transforming the landmark. The contractors working on behalf of the city council have begun ground condition tests to better understand what’s beneath the site’s surface, looking at elements such as services, soil and water conditions. Affordable homes plan for town dubbed ‘one of UK’s best places to live’

Narberth was featured in The Sunday Times 2023 Best Places to Live Guide, where it was described as having “a town centre that punches far above its weight”. Agent Asbri Planning Ltd, in a supporting statement, said: “Approximately half of the homes proposed will be for social rent or offered for sale as part of a discounted home ownership scheme for local people who want to buy their own home but cannot afford the high cost of houses in Narberth.” Read More

New project to bring empty Swansea units back into use

Creative regeneration agency Urban Foundry will deliver the ‘Meanwhile Spaces’ project in partnership with Swansea Council. Opportunities will be provided for new independent businesses as part of the project, as well as local food and craft producers, social enterprises and pop-up arts and cultural activities. Read More

Mumbles’ new seawall aimed at protecting the village for generations to come is now taking shape

The work had reached a new milestone with the first large-scale concrete panels – designed as part of a Swansea University project – in place. They will protect the community for many decades to come and – thanks to the attractively textured finish – encourage biodiversity. Complex surface structures enable diverse marine and coastal species to settle. In time, the panels will be colonised by seaweeds, barnacles and other creatures. Read More

Commercial and apartments building in Swansea lined up

The project is a continuation of the wider regeneration scheme within the Coastal Housing Urban Village development. Lined up is a six-storey building comprising commercial spaces at ground floor with five upper levels of residential totalling 15 apartments with rooftop plant space. The ground floor space would consist of kiosk units which are also planned at upper-level. Read More

Progress on former chapel conversion in to affordable homes and community space

The project will see a transformation of the former Brynmyrnach chapel in Hermon after it was forced to close in 2022 due to roof deterioration. The local Perthyn Project coordinator Cris Tomos of PLANED said: “It is so important that local communities have a chance to retain and use local assets for community initiatives such as the scheme at the old chapel in Hermon and to ensure community assets are retain for future generations.” Read More

Pictures show the ongoing transformation of Swansea’s old Woolworths building

Developers say the project will become the “heart and lungs” of Swansea city centre. It will provide an educational facility, residential apartments, shops, offices, and a courtyard, and will feature biophilic walls and roofs, rooftop solar panels, battery storage, and gardens. There will be an urban farm-style greenhouse set over four floors. Plants and vegetables will be grown in water and nourished by waste pumped from fish tanks at the bottom of the building. Read More

Bouygues UK recruits locals as community ambassadors for its Pentre Awel Project

Three Llanelli residents have signed up to become Bouygues UK Community Ambassadors for its Pentre Awel construction project and it’s hoped that more local people will join the scheme. The Ambassadors will play an important role in liaising and communicating with the local community who live and work around the project, keeping them up to date on the different stages of the build, the project progress, as well as any issues or concerns. Secretary Clinton celebrates City Deal’s 5G innovation fund award of £1.5 million to Swansea University to develop world-first “living lab”

The Digital Infrastructure Programme’s grant funding will heavily support what is set to be a world-first research and innovation environment that harnesses 5G infrastructure to improve health and wellbeing and will create a “living laboratory” in the Swansea Bay City Region. Secretary Hillary Clinton applauded the landmark announcement, which took place at the Leadership for Future Generations event at Swansea University. Read More

Round two of multi-million pound Port Talbot Waterfront Property Development Fund launched

Neath Port Talbot Council is inviting expressions of interest for the second round of funding from the Property Development Fund (PDF) focusing on the dynamic Port Talbot Waterfront area, which takes in Harbourside, Baglan Energy Park and Baglan Industrial Estate. The PDF is a strategic initiative aimed at boosting development by providing financial support for the construction or refurbishment of high-quality buildings for industrial and commercial use. World champion pizza chef to open Pembroke restaurant

Giovanni Recchia won at the Pizza World Championships in Italy at the beginning of this year and he is now officially one of the best pizza makers in the world. “My mentality is, my pizza – for me it’s amazing, for my customers it’s amazing but my mentality is to test myself,” said Giovanni. He says that the secret to a good pizza is the dough and that he likes to think of the pizza as the plate, creating the taste of well-known meals through what he adds to the base. Read More

The chef opening Wales’ most exciting new restaurant after leaving one of the world’s most famous

Swansea-born chef, Jonathan Woolway, has worked for the past 16 years in one of London’s most highly regarded restaurants, St John, which pioneered the nose-to-tail philosophy of cooking. What’s made him come back to Swansea and take up residence at The Shed? It’s an easy question for the 43-year-old, who grew up in Gorseinon and talks lovingly about growing up watching his mum and nan cook at home. Read More

New cocktail and karaoke bar to open in Swansea’s Wind Street

Filling the empty unit which previously housed BrewDog, which closed down earlier this year and, before that American-themed bar Bucket List, Bella will have bars on both its ground-floor and upstairs levels serving a wide range of cocktails, many of which will be of a “new concept”. Plus, upstairs at the venue – Aca-Bella – there will be a stage area with a screen showing the lyrics to all the songs playing during karaoke sessions. Read More

A spokesperson from Cattle & Co said “Our whole team is very excited to open at the former Juniper Place. It’s such a beautiful building and provides us with a large capacity restaurant all on one floor. The location is fantastic and directly opposite Winter Wonderland and the new Swansea Arena. App Download Reminder with Christmas Fast-Approaching

Access to offers in shops and restaurants in Swansea city centre and information about what’s on there are among the features of a free new app that Swansea residents are being reminded to install. Created and run by Swansea BID and funded by Swansea Council, the progressive web app now includes 26 offers, a list of many forthcoming events, a searchable directory of city centre businesses, a dining out section and information about council-run car parks. Someone is being offered the chance to take over this prime Mumbles building with a huge horse mural on the side

The chance has come up to take over a popular former bar and restaurant premises in a prime Mumbles location. Independent bar and kitchen, The Dark Horse, suddenly closed in September earlier this year. It was a popular haunt for locals and visitors looking to enjoy food or a drink, and was ranked number 120 of 389 restaurants in Swansea on TripAdvisor. It is an eye catching building, thanks to the impressive mural of a horse adorning its walls. Read More

Charter to Develop Healthcare Innovation in Wales

AstraZeneca, the Welsh Government, Swansea University and Life Sciences Hub Wales have pledged to work together to develop new ways of diagnosing and treating illnesses and achieving what matters most to patients and service users. This approach will integrate policy aims across health and the economy helping to prioritise the introduction of innovative healthcare medicines and technologies, on the basis of value created for people and communities. CIRCULAR ECONOMY & ENVIRONMENT

Making (energy from) waves

We have a first class floating offshore wind industry ready to go. It offers a once in a generation opportunity to build a new pioneering industry. Unlike traditional offshore wind turbines, floating turbines sit on large floating steel structures tethered to the seabed. This allows the turbines to be placed further out at sea in locations with higher winds, such as Pembrokeshire. Read more about this and other forms of marine energy in the region.

Huge battery factory, solar farm and electric car charging hub for Swansea takes big step forward

A £4bn renewable energy project could see the creation of a green energy transport hub, a high-tech battery making facility and expanded solar farms. Speaking at our Green Economy Conference, Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart said “The land agreements are a big step forward for the project…a scheme that’s potentially a game-changer for Swansea as we look to create a more prosperous and sustainable city for our children and generations to come.” Read More

Solar farm extension and new battery gives Morriston Hospital even more power and savings

A giant battery which can store the sun’s power to use after dark is set to take Morriston Hospital’s trail-blazing solar farm to the next level. The solar farm – which was the first of its kind in the UK to directly power a hospital – is having a 1MW extension and a special battery which will be able to store any excess solar power generated on the brightest days, for use after the sun sets. Hydrogen bus trial on the cards for Swansea

A key aspect of the £4bn renewable energy project is the expansion of the Fabian Way park and ride site to create a green energy transport hub to potentially include a hydrogen manufacturing station for hydrogen-powered transport. It is hoped that Swansea will be part of the Welsh Government’s hydrogen bus trial. Not only will they run on cleaner fuel, they will actually have the ability to clean the air as they go through communities. Read More

Port Talbot alcohol-to-jet fuel facility plans lodged

Plans to produce a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in South West Wales have been submitted, with more than 150 jobs expected to be created. It will produce about 100 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel per year. The SAF produced will replace about 1 per cent of the fossil jet fuel used in the UK. Compared to fossil jet fuel, SAF reduces greenhouse gases by more than 70 per cent across the life cycle. Plans for market garden near National Botanic Garden of Wales approved

The plans will see the infrastructure of a market garden which would be called ‘Farming with Fungi’ and will test the effects of mycorrhizal fungi in ‘crop rotation versus no crop rotation’ or horticultural crops. It will also trial recycled carbon dioxide pumped into a productive polytunnel. The produce grown will serve the Caffi Botanica in the Botanic Gardens as well as residents of the local villages as part of a community supported agriculture scheme. Read More

Final Branding Revealed for Swansea Project Zero

Final designs have been revealed for the branding of a project aimed at helping Swansea tackle climate change. The Swansea Project Zero branding has been developed by Agi Olah, a graphic design student at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. Unveiled at our Green Economy Conference, the branding will now be used as part of projects members of a Climate Change and Nature Action Signatories Group become involved with. Read More

Innovative Pembrokeshire net zero project gains momentum

The MUST project promises numerous environmental benefits, including the complete elimination of CO2 emissions from Dragon LNG’s regasification process. This is achievable through the innovative use of residual process heat from RWE’s Pembroke Power Station generators. Another significant aspect of the project is establishing a route to export CO2 from a potential carbon capture plant at Pembroke Power Station. Read More

Swansea University: Rare Egyptian artefacts come to Wales

Swansea University’s Egypt Centre will host 800 items in a collection on loan from Harrogate Museum for three years. The university’s experts will analyse the objects, in the hope of improving understanding of antiquity. The artefacts range from 1,400 to 7,000 years old, and come from across the ancient Egyptian world. Despite their disparate origins, they were all linked by the Egyptians’ desire for their names to be recalled by future generations. Read More

Eleven students represented NPTC Group of Colleges, across six skills areas – and they returned with medals. The finalists were amongst the highest performers in the UK in their respective disciplines following a series of regional qualifiers and they represented the best of the best in the UK. Read More

STEM initiative called SPARC launched in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire College and Pembrokeshire County Council have joined forces with Floventis Energy, RWE Renewables, Blue Gem Wind, Port of Milford Haven and Ledwood Engineering to create a new careers initiative. Called SPARC, the initiative will help to inspire a new and more diverse workforce in Pembrokeshire and beyond, developing STEM skills and inspiring more girls to enter STEM-based industries.
