Natural Resources Wales requires a framework contract for period of 4 years for the supply of a vessel skipper for their 12m cabined jet-drive RIB Pedryn. Huge £250m Wildfox Adventure Resort approved for Afan Valley near Port Talbot
It means the proposals that will include 570 holiday lodges, a 50-bed hotel and 15-bed apartment-hotel, as well as indoor water park and canyoning facilities, have now moved one step closer to construction. When complete, the site will also contain a spa, restaurant with viewing area, a climbing and bouldering building with a small retail central plaza, along with a forest hub and arrivals building. Swansea named in UK’s top four cities
The city was shortlisted for the City of Year title at the Estates Gazette 2022 awards. Developed by Swansea Council and development managed by RivingtonHark, the £135m Copr Bay district was among the schemes that led to the city being recognised. Plans to develop an Olympic-sized cold water swimming pool in Milford Haven have gained momentum. Four sites for the lido have been considered – namely Gelliswick Bay, Wards Yard and Hubberston Fort – however the firm favourite is the Rath site at the water gardens, which is where the previous pool stood until its closure in 1987. A welcoming new restaurant serving dishes from around the world has opened in Loughor. Callatis restaurant, located on Glebe Road, is owned by husband and wife team Mihai and Magdalena Mircea who previously ran popular coffee shop Cafe Del Mar in Swansea City Centre. “I was born in Romania, in a town called Mangalia on the Black Sea coast. New facilities to support the growth of Celtic Sea FLOW take another step forward
Land management works have begun at Pembroke Port signalling the start of another important phase in the £60 million Pembroke Dock Marine project. Contractors, the Walters Group, have mobilised on site tasked with creating 17,000 sqm of laydown space by the end of 2024. The new laydown space complements construction work being delivered by BAM Nuttall to create a new supersize slipway and new workboat pontoons, as well as onsite office facilities. Read More
Major companies sign up to multi-billion pound tidal lagoon for Swansea
The consortium of firms are working on the Blue Eden proposal at SA1, which aims in the long term to deliver an electric battery manufacturing plant and battery storage facility, hundreds of waterfront homes, a tidal energy lagoon and floating solar farm within it, a data storage centre, a green hydrogen production facility, and an oceanic and climate change research centre. Pembroke net zero centre could add millions to Welsh economy and create thousands of jobs – report
The report, commissioned by RWE, found that construction of the net zero centre between 2023 and 2038 could boost the Welsh economy by around £41m to 68m of GVA per year and create between 900 and 1,500 jobs. In that time, PNZC could also support annual Welsh construction activity by £46m – £77m per annum. Once operational by 2040, the the centre will boost the local Welsh economy by £28m of GVA each year and create a further 270 jobs. Read More
South Wales ports sign memorandum of understanding for 1GW wind farm in Celtic Sea
If built, it is estimated to provide power for around 927,000 homes and make a “significant contribution” to The Crown Estate’s ambitions for 4GW of capacity in the Celtic Sea. Now Gwynt Glas has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Associated British Ports, which operates Port Talbot, and Wales’ largest energy port, the Port of Milford Haven. The MoU will prepare the two ports for future needs of floating offshore wind in the Celtic Sea. Read More
Major hydrogen pipeline planned for South Wales
Wales & West Utilities is announcing plans for a major hydrogen pipeline in south Wales, to accelerate decarbonisation plans for industry and gas customers in the region. HyLine Cymru will assess the feasibility of a pipeline network from Pembroke to the Swansea Bay area, connecting low carbon hydrogen production with industrial demand and providing options for other natural gas customers. UK’s First Hospital Powered by Its Own Solar Farm Based in Wales
Morriston Hospital in Swansea has become the first in the UK to be directly powered by its own solar farm, setting the bar for other hospitals and schools in Wales to follow suit. The solar farm is surpassing expectations by providing enough electricity to not only contribute to the daily power needs of the hospital but also to cover 100% of its demand for 50 hours. Read More
Swansea University Academics Transform Facemasks into Ethernet Cables
Swansea University academics have pioneered a process which converts the carbon found in discarded facemasks to create high-quality single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) which were then used to make Ethernet cable with broadband quality. The CNTs produced by this technique have the potential not only to be used in Ethernet cables, but also in the production of lightweight batteries used in electric cars and drones. Read More
Power station plans could yield ‘significant economical and green benefits’
Work is being carried out on the site of the former Carmarthen Bay power station in Burry Port, to evaluate the possibility of reclaiming a waste product from the plant for use in the construction industry. Pulverised Fuel Ash, or PFA for short, is buried in areas surrounding the demolished power station and its extraction could realise both economic and amenity benefits to the local community. My Tree, Our Forest
The Welsh Government and Coed Cadw, the Woodland Trust in Wales, are offering trees to households in Wales, free of charge. The trees will help tackle the effects of climate change and will also contribute to the National Forest for Wales. The first 5,000 trees were given away in March 2022. Between now and March 2023 they have 295,000 trees available on a first come first served basis. There are three ways you can get hold of trees.
Major new food hub to be launched in Milford Haven
Milford Haven has been named as the town selected for a new West Wales-based food hub by the Wales Community Food Distribution, led by PLANED. This will be the fourth food hub in the area with the aim of facilitating volunteers and customers to link with food producers and suppliers to purchase fresh, great value food. Read More
A bid has been unveiled for a ‘freeport’ covering Milford Haven and Port Talbot
A freeport in south west Wales focused on green energy would create over 16,000 new jobs and generate up to £5.5bn of investment, claim its backers. The ports and local authorities behind the Celtic Freeport have said a freeport status would rapidly accelerate Wales’ ambition to become net zero while creating high-quality green jobs. Read More

Expert advises closed colliery museum could have a bright future if funding is available
A museum and culture expert has recommended Neath Port Talbot Council should retain Cefn Coed Colliery Museum and make it a visitor attraction and gateway to the local area as part of its developing Heritage Strategy. In 1930 Cefn Coed Collery was the deepest anthracite mine in the world. It is one of a small group, from the hundreds of collieries in Wales, that survive as distinct monuments to the industry and are accessible today as museums. Read More
Haverfordwest archaeological dig comes to a close
Dyfed Arch Trust wanted to find out more about the mysterious Priory of St Saviours, a Dominican priory that was located somewhere in Haverfordwest in the 12th century. They found corpses, over 300 in fact, as they stumbled on an ancient burial ground below Ocky Whites. The old Ocky Whites building is currently being redeveloped by John Weavers Construction into a three-storey local food and beverage emporium with bar and rooftop terrace. Read More
